GUANGDONG, China - A teenager stabbed her younger sister to death in their home, allegedly over their parents showing favouritism towards the younger child.
According to a report on China News, the tragic incident took place in Guangdong on June 30 at around 6pm.
Under the pretense of playing a game, 14-year-old Xiao Yuan restrained 9-year-old Xiao Chun's neck and stabbed her twice in her abdomen, killing her on the spot.
The teenager later called emergency services and reported that a man dressed in yellow had broken into their house and killed Xiao Chun.
However, it was soon revealed that she was the actual murderer.
Oriental Daily reported that Xiao Yuan had an estranged relationship with her parents, as she was brought up by her grandparents and only reunited with her parents when she was 9 years old.
They often reprimanded Xiao Yuan for misbehaving and performing poorly in school. She was later forced to quit school and help out in their noodle shop.
During police investigations, Xiao Yuan reportedly said that she resented her parents because they favoured her younger sister, who was more clever and well-behaved.
Xiao Yuan also said that she entertained thoughts of killing Xiao Chun ever since she was 12 years old. Although she voiced these disturbing thoughts to their parents, they did not take it to heart.
After Xiao Yuan's arrest, her parents reportedly told relatives that they would disown her.
