young woman was at the centre of a five-hour suicide drama last night.

The pretty 20-year-old blond hair Chinese national woman had threatened to jump from a ledge on the 14 floor of Bukit Batok Enterprise Centre at about 9.25pm last night.

A large crowd gathered to watch the drama unfold as police, negotiators and Civil Defence personnel arrived.

The Civil Defence deployed a fire engine, a red rhino, three support vehicles and an ambulance, and upon arrival, proceeded to set up an air mattress beneath the woman.

As the building faces a foreign worker dormitory, many of the 500 or so workers lined the corridors of the dorm to witness the drama.

According to sources, the woman on the ledge is a food factory supervisor who has been working in Singapore for about a year.

She had got to know a married man at the factory and became his mistress. The affair was discovered by the man's wife and led to the suicide drama. The woman is said to have tried to commit suicide a few days ago by drinking thinner.

The married man was also present at the scene together with his elder sister.

A negotiator was dispatched to counsel the emotional woman. While the two were talking, the woman was occasionally heard shouting and at other times keeping quiet. Sometimes she would also walk about the ledge dangerously.

Among the words she shouted were, "Scram! Tell his wife to come and kneel to me! Don't bargain with me!"

Other times, she was hurling vulgarities, abusive words and demanding others to kneel to her.

The young Chinese woman is notorious at the factory she works at. She is known to be a heavy drinker and smoker, and said to be loud and arrogant.

The suicide drama finally ended at about 2am when Civil Defence personnel managed to bring her back from the ledge. After the woman was subdued, she was heard shouting repeatedly, "I've always loved you... you're my most beloved husband!"

On the case, a police spokesperson said that the woman was arrested for attempted suicide.
