Austrian teen's driving lesson ends in raging water

VIENNA - An Austrian teenager's driving lesson went horribly wrong when she accidentally steered her compact car into a raging river that swept the vehicle 150 metres (yards) downstream.

Firefighters in the central Austrian town of Schladming used heavy equipment and divers to rescue the 17-year-old driver and her 50-year-old father - a fellow firefighter - from the frigid Enns river after a 20-minute ordeal late on Tuesday, the Austria Press Agency reported.

Father and daughter suffered only a slight shock and hypothermia.
"This was a very emotional mission for us, which turned out well, thank God," the fire brigade in the Alpine town said alongside pictures of the rescue it posted on its website.
