Driver sleeps on busy road

A driver, believed to be drunk, was found sleeping in his car at a busy road junction on Wednesday afternoon. When a passer-by woke him, he drove away and ended up hitting two cars. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The driver, 62, was dozing off in the middle of Telok Blangah Road just before a traffic light at about 5pm. His car, a blue Mercedes, was blocking other cars which were turning into Harbour Front Avenue.

They honked, but he did not budge. Eventually, they overtook him and made their turn.
Taxi driver Sarsi Ching, 47, who was driving past, decided to take a closer look.
He was shocked to find the driver with his head bowed and arms hanging loosely by the side.
Mr Ching told The New Paper in Mandarin: "At first, I thought he was dead. Thankfully, he was breathing."

The cabby tried to wake the driver by knocking on the window. But the man did not stir.
So he got back into his taxi and continued on to send his passenger to HarbourFront Centre.
Mr Sarsi Ching who tried to advise the driver.
The cabby returned to the scene five minutes later, and was shocked to see that the car had still not moved.

Mr Ching knocked on the window again.
This time, the driver awoke, and wound down the window.
Mr Ching said: "I asked him to get out of the car as it was dangerous to be sleeping in the middle of the road.

"I could see that he was still sleepy as he kept nodding and shaking his head."
Little did he expect that the driver would suddenly threaten him.

"He said, 'Do you want to hit me? Do you?' He also pulled at my collar, taunting me."
Mr Ching didn't want to further provoke the driver and kept quiet.
