50 flights disrupted as Bali awaits world leaders

BALI, Indonesia - Up to 50 flights to and from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali will be rescheduled to accommodate the arrival of various world leaders, including US President Barack Obama, for the upcoming Asean Summit and East Asia Summit later this week.
Obama is expected to land at Ngurah Rai at 6.45pm on Thursday, and return to his home country at 5pm on Saturday.

He is scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit, which will run from Thursday to Saturday.Earlier on Wednesday, Ngurai Rai is scheduled to welcome Brunei, Cambodian, Malaysian, Philippine, Laos, Singaporean and Vietnamese heads of state.
On Thursday, besides Obama, the airport is scheduled to receive UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as well as Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Korean leaders.
On Friday, Australian and Russian leaders are expected to arrive at the airport.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, meanwhile, is expected to arrive in Bali on Tuesday, upon returning from the APEC Summit in Hawaii.
“Myanmar and Thailand have not confirmed their (arrival times) yet,” Ngurah Rai operational manager Sugiono said Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Sugiono explained that the arrivals of the VVIP guests were expected to disrupt about 50 regular flights as regular activities at the airport would cease 30 minutes before each airplane carrying the leaders landed or took off, and 15 minutes afterward.

“The standard operating procedures are the same for all presidential flights,” he said.
Sugiono said eight local airlines and 11 international carriers had agreed to reschedule flights.
