Yishun murders: Quarrel over crabs sparks off killing spree
At the second day of a murder trial involving the deaths of three Chinese nationals in Yishun, accused Wang Zhijian revealed that a quarrel over money for crabs sparked off the slashing frenzy.
The prosecution yesterday read out what Wang had told the police in the immediate hours and days after the incident which happened at a Block 349, Yishun Avenue 11.
Wang is accused of killing Zhang Men, 42, her daughter Feng Jianyu, 17, and their flatmate, Madam Yang Jie, 36. Madam Yang's daughter, Li Meilin, now 18, survived despite being slashed repeatedly.
According to local media reports, Wang told the police that his girlfriend, Madam Zhang had approached him on the night of September 18, 2008 and asked him how much money he had with him.
When Wang, 45, asked her why she wanted the money, Madam Zhang, 42, said she wanted to eat crabs.
He said that they should save the money instead of spending it on crabs, especially since she had eaten the dish just a few days before.
She then called him a pauper, the court heard.
The New Paper reported that he told her to spend her own money. Madam Zhang retorted that it was only right that she spent his money.
This sparked off a quarrel in which she used vulgarities on him and humiliated him by calling him a poor fellow and that he was produced by dogs and donkey.
