Merc-driving man seen dumping cat into bin

Footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) security cameras showing a man dumping a cat into a rubbish bin has raised concern among outraged netizens and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
The video was posted on YouTube and citizen journalism website Stomp on Tuesday by Miss Chee Siew Luan, reported The Straits Times.
The SPCA is appealing for more information on the video and netizens have commented on their Facebook page after it posted the appeal yesterday morning.
Miss Chee is an administrative assistant at the James Tan Veterinary Centre in Whitley Road and the bin is located on the premises of the veterinary centre.
Miss Chee, 26, told The Straits Times that a staff member discovered the cat in the bin at about 2pm on Tuesday.
After tracing back events on the CCTV, they saw a man emptying something into the bin from a cat carrier at 9.47am. She added that the cat had a collar but no tag or microchip.
In the 45-second video, a man wearing a striped shirt is seen getting out of a silver Mercedes-Benz, holding a cat carrier.
A young girl, who looks about four years old, is seen accompanying the man.
He walks towards the bin, opens the lid, fidgets with the door of the cat carrier and tips something in - presumably the cat, as it is not clear from the video.
No one had opened the bin since that time.
Miss Chee said it appeared that the cat had been trying to jump out of the bin for hours as "the bin moved slightly, many times".
A spokesman for the SPCA said it had also made a police report.
"We're hoping that more information will come to pass,' she said. 'Let's leave this in the hands of the police", said the spokesman to The Straits Times.
The cat is between one and three years old, and is a male tabby which has been sterilised.
It is currently being taken care of by vets at the centre but staff say it is in shock and has not eaten since it was discovered.
