Lorry driver in trouble four times over ex-girlfriend

A 41-year-old lorry driver narrowly escaped being jailed this morning, but was handed a $1,500 fine for forcibly restraining his former girlfriend in his vehicle.

Shin Min Daily News reported that he also faced four other charges, including restricting her movements, peeping at her in a public toilet, as well as threatening to expose their sex videos.

The man pleaded not guilty, and an appeal will be heard at a later date.
During the trial, the man's lawyers presented a series of SMS-es to the judge, which then prompted the judge to call both the prosecution and defense's lawyers into his inner chambers for a discussion. After that discussion, the prosecution called off four charges, and proceeded to try the lorry driver for restraining the 44-year-old female manager.

The prosecution asked the judge to hand the man another jail sentence for his latest offence, but the judge noted that the man had already been in remand for three months, which is longer than the maximum sentence of one month for forcible restraint.

The judge also added that he hoped the man will learn a lesson this time, and understand that he had crossed the line as the woman clearly did not wish to continue a relationship with him.
